Fokus blog10/30/2022 ![]() ![]() With my mentees, I like to get to know them, their motivations and understand how they are looking to evolve their careers. FOKUS BLOG PROFESSIONALGet To Know The Person Then The Professional Mentorship for me is one of the most important and responsible work streams I have, mentors have been incredibly important in my personal growth (not just professional) and it is something I feel is a privilege to be a mentor or when someone thanks you for being a mentor, especially when it is unofficial and goes undiscussed. My mentor process, whether it is official or unofficial. If you’re not already in early access, you can be among the first to try it and give your feedback by joining Early Access for a $10/mo sponsorship.Dear Leaders, this week I am going to share one of my proud secrets. Note that you may not experience too much different here just yet and there will be plenty of issues to sort through. FOKUS BLOG INSTALLThis will install the new System Settings app itself as well as the 7 panes currently available to test. To get the new System Settings, pop open Terminal and enter sudo apt install io.ttings*. If you’re in early access, you now have the ability to install and test the very early Gtk 4 port of System Settings. These handy automations help us to do our work quickly while ensuring large breaking changes don’t get into our code. Our Gettext action has also been updated so that translation templates are always kept up to date and translators are able to quickly and automatically do their work via Weblate. We’re now building some new Docker containers specifically for OS 7 and have a resolved an issue that caused build failures for any projects making use of GResource-which is quite a few. Still important, but probably less interesting for you, Corentin also spent some time resolving some issues we were having with GitHub Actions and our continuous integration testing process. One final thing, though it hasn’t been approved yet, the Gtk 4 port of AppCenter is ready for review! So we can hopefully look forward to a big performance boost once that lands as well. In addition to several other under the hood improvements, the next release of AppCenter will certainly be much more stable. And in the updates view, the “Update All” header is now sticky to the view, making its action always easily accessible.ĪppCenter with a overlay status bar and a sticky updates headerĪlso, shoutouts to Michael Murphy from System76 for upstreaming a fix for a crash that would occur when showing error messages. This replaces the mysterious spinner that previously appeared in the header bar. There’s now an overlay status bar showing a description of currently in progress tasks. Improved release notes in AppCenter with linked issue reports We’re hoping this encourages folks to get involved as part of the open source community for their favorite apps. Plus, we now support the tag so that developers can provide links back to solved issues that you’ve reported. You can now see the release notes of up to 5 past releases on app info pages to get a clearer idea of how often an app is updated. AppCenterĪppCenter continues to get new features and plenty of fixes in preparation for quite a large new release! As always, you can follow along with remaining release targeted issues on the OS 7 Project Board. This brings us much much closer to the stable release of OS 7. Major shoutouts to Corentin and David for their work here. ![]() I’m happy to report that several of these regressions have now been solved and there is only one known release blocking issue for Gala left. If you’re following the release closely, you may be aware the the primary release blockers for the last several months have been some serious regressions in Gala, our window manager. If you’re writing apps for elementary OS, be sure to check it out! The new app has been updated to use Gtk 4 and has much better system dark style support as well as doing a better job showing relevant icon sizes and more. This developer tool shows you all of the system icons available to use in your apps and you can even search them by description. If you’re familiar with my LookBook app which was previously offered for $10, you may be excited to know that the new elementary Icon Browser is available for free. The new elementary Icon Browser available in AppCenter Sorry 6.1 fans, this month was all about OS 7 with the exception of a new Icon Browser app being released in AppCenter. Danielle Foré Founder & CEO Wed, Oct 5, 2022 ![]() Honey whipped cream recipe10/30/2022 ![]() Having it thicker also makes it easier to give to children. Smear it on a biscuit, toasted sourdough bread, pancakes, and all of your other favorite baked goods. I like to keep a jar in the fridge so it stays thicker and can be used as a spread. Use it to top granola, yogurt, ice cream, or hot tea. If you keep it at room temperature, it will drizzle. Whipped honey can be used just like liquid honey. HONEY WHIPPED CREAM RECIPE HOW TOThis is natural and you can either stir it back in or scrape it off for a super-sweet treat! How to Use Whipped Honey Some separation will occur and you will see a layer of foam on the top of the jar. This keeps it nice and thick and easier to spread. If your home is too warm though, it will become liquid again. Whipped honey can be stored at room temperature, just like liquid honey, and it won’t spoil. You now have whipped honey! How to Store Whipped Honey Once it’s all whipped up, turn the mixer off and pour the honey back into its jar or a fresh glass jar if you prefer. The honey will turn white and look a little on the fluffy side. Turn the mixer on medium-high and allow to whip for about 20 minutes. You can use as little or as much honey as you’d like! I like to use a pint jar of honey but there’s no certain amount required. You need to use raw honey, which is the best honey to have anyways! Unfortunately, pasteurized or heat-treated honey from the grocery store won’t work for this recipe. Honey that has started to crystallize works best but liquid honey is fine too. ![]() Start by pouring a jar of honey into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. This is so easy to do, it hardly needs an explanation! There are other methods, including purchasing a “starter” seed but this is how I do it right at home. It is smoother and easier to use than crystallized honey.
Med sci monit10/30/2022 ![]() ![]() Trump- gracer of Playboy covers, delighter of shock jocks, collector of mistresses-who descended from the mountaintop in the summer of 2016, GOP presidential nomination in hand, offering salvation to both Pence and the religious right. View Moreīecause God works in mysterious ways (or, at the very least, has a postmodern sense of humor), it was Donald J. In many ways, Pence was on the same doomed trajectory as the conservative-Christian movement he’d long championed-once a political force to be reckoned with, now a battered relic of the culture wars.Ĭheck out more from this issue and find your next story to read. Just a year earlier, he was an embattled small-state governor with underwater approval ratings, dismal reelection prospects, and a national reputation in tatters. The very fact that he is standing behind a lectern bearing the vice-presidential seal is, one could argue, a loaves-and-fishes-level miracle. It’s easy to see how Pence could put so much faith in the possibilities of divine intervention. “If His people who are called by His name will humble themselves and pray,” he proclaims, “He’ll hear from heaven, and He’ll heal this land!” “It’s a good time to pray for America.” His voice rising in righteous fervor, the vice president promises an opening of the heavens. “We’ve come to a pivotal moment in the life of this country,” Pence soulfully intones. As he nears the end of his remarks, his happy-warrior buoyancy gives way to a more sober cadence. In his folksy Midwestern drawl, he recites Republican aphorisms about “job creators” and regulatory “red tape,” and heralds the many supposed triumphs of Trump’s young presidency. I’ve got this.Īnd then, all at once, Pence is back on message. Let not your hearts be troubled, he seems to be saying. It’s almost as if, in that brief, barely perceptible moment, Pence is sending a message to those with ears to hear-that he recognizes the absurdity of his situation that he knows just what sort of man he’s working for that while things may look bad now, there is a grand purpose at work here, a plan that will manifest itself in due time. He’ll be witnessing to evangelicals at a mega-church, or addressing conservative supporters at a rally, and when the moment comes for him to pass along the president’s well-wishes, the words are invariably accompanied by an amused little chuckle that prompts knowing laughter from the attendees. Watch Pence give enough speeches, and you’ll notice that this often happens when he’s in front of a friendly crowd. When the time comes, Pence takes the stage and greets the crowd with a booming “Hell ooooo, Indiana!” He says he has “just hung up the phone” with Donald Trump and that the president asked him to “say hello.” He delivers this message with a slight chuckle that has a certain, almost subversive quality to it. #Med sci monit full#To hear more feature stories, see our full list or get the Audm iPhone app. ![]() Door dash driver10/29/2022 ![]() ![]() According to a survey conducted by the Mellman Group in September, the company found that 21% of its Dashers drove for ridesharing companies and 6% said they preferred ridesharing to Dashing. For example, the leader may lay down “colorless,” and players must decide which of their noun cards could best be described this way. The fun is that these associations are personal and therefore often subjective. Perfect for teaching parts of speech, in Apples to Apples players must associate one of their five assigned noun/verb cards with an adjective/adverb laid down by the leader. For example, if Student A receives a game card with CLOWN, followed by red nose, circus, It and Krusty, then their challenge is to communicate the concept “Clown” to their team without using the associated words or concepts given on their card. Usually guaranteed to provoke chatter, Taboo asks players to make their team mates say a given word-without using related words. This is a great way for students to practice thinking under pressure and within the constraints of catergories. In the official boardgame you’ll use a 20-sided lettered die, however, if you don’t have access to one you can use an app to select a letter at random. ScattergoriesĪ much-loved game all around! Think Uno, Chess, Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders, and Connect 4. Tip: There are any number of board games you can adapt with questions in this way. Alternatively, for even more speaking practice, tape a question to each block for students to answer before placing it on the top of the tower. Give traditional Jenga a twist by having students answer a question each time the blocks fall. Players work individually to find as many hidden words as they can in three minutes, recording these on a piece of paper. BoggleĪ challenging game at any level, in Boggle, players shake 16 lettered dice and use them to find words in “adjacent” dice (these may be dice that are diagonal, horizontal or vertical neighbors). (For example, you can change “cat” to “bat” by placing the ‘b’ tile on top.) (You can play Upwords with a Scrabble board as well, though it’s a good idea to place a height limit on tiles, as Scrabble tiles are not designed to hold multiple tiles steady.) 3. Upwords uses the same crossword pattern as Scrabble, though allows players to build words upwards by placing tiles on top of one another. While playing, do remember to keep a dictionary handy to clear up any disagreements, ensure students understand parts of speech and encourage them to make other word forms (e.g., create verbs from nouns). Don’t be afraid to play along with them: as the teacher, you can inject interest and surprise by introducing your class to more advanced or obscure words.
